TANGER MED, FIRST MOROCCAN PLATFORM FOR IMPORT AND EXPORT

• An aggregate value of 33 bUSD of products were handled in imports and exports in 2018 at Tanger Med Port
• Tanger Med Port alone operates more than 50% of Moroccan exports
• 3,472,451 TEU containers handled in 2018, a growth up by 15.7% compared to the nominal capacity of Tanger Med Port

Tanger Med is the first Moroccan platform for import and export flows, whith a total value handled in 2018 of 33 bUSD.
As for exports, 14.5 bUSD of products were exported through of Tanger Med Port, which represents 50.6% of all Moroccan exports.
Tanger Med thus confirms its position as the leading export port supporting the Moroccan economy’s competitiveness.
The overall tonnage handled for the past year is 52,240,806 tonnes, in evolution of 2% compared to 2017.

CONTAINER TRAFFIC: INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY
The number of containers processed on the two Tanger Med 1 Port terminals in 2018 is 3,472,451 TEUs (Twenty Foot Equivalent). This figure is up by 5% compared to 2017.
It also corresponds to a traffic of more than 15.7% compared to the nominal capacity of the Tanger Med Port 1 port, thanks to the performance and productivity of the container terminals, the harbormaster and the piloting team for the management of port operations.
The year 2019 will mark the opening of Tanger Med Port 2, which will add new container handling capacities.

A GROWING RO-RO AND PASSENGER TRAFFIC
Passenger traffic maintained a stable evolution compared to 2017 with a traffic of 2,802,108 passengers, a slight increase of 1%.
Trucks traffic grew significantly by 14% compared to 2017. This growth was particularly driven by exports of industrial and agribusiness products. The total traffic recorded is 326,773 trucks.

VEHICLE TRAFFIC IN PROGRESS
479,321 vehicles were handled at the two Tanger Med Port vehicles terminals, representing a traffic up by 11% from 2017.
On the Renault dedicated terminal, 383,715 vehicles were handled, including 351,191 for export from the Renault Tanger Med and Casablanca factories.
On the Common User terminal, 88,451 transhipment vehicles were handled in 2018.
The year 2019 will mark the start of exports of Peugeot vehicles, manufactured at the Kenitra plant through Tanger Med Port.

SOLID AND LIQUID BULK TRAFFIC DECLINING
Solid bulk traffic registered 254,190 tonnes handled, down by 18% compared to 2017 mainly due to lower grain imports.
Liquid bulk traffic has decreased by 21% compared to 2017. It recorded 5,920,477 tonnes of processed hydrocarbons. This variation is mainly due to the drop in imports of fuel oil.

MARINE TRAFFIC AND CONNECTIVITY
13,293 ships docked at Tanger Med Port in 2018, providing direct sea connections to 186 ports and 77 countries. The new countries affected are Djibouti (Port of Djibouti), Guatemala (Port of Quetzal), Ireland (Port of Dublin), Bahrain (Port of Bahrain) and Madagascar (Port of Tamatave).

The performances achieved during the year 2018 result from the commitment and the continuous collaboration of all Tanger Med partners and in particular, operators, shipowners, as well as administrations and authorities respectives.
