On January 8, 2024, the Port Captaincy organized a major crisis simulation exercise, involving the Crisis Management Cell of the Tanger Med Port Authority. The chosen scenario involved a « Car Fire aboard a Car Carrier at Terminal Vehicles PTM1. »

This exercise involved members of the TMPA Crisis Management Cell, the Port Command Post, field intervention teams (Security Brigade and emergency medical team), as well as two experts from SMIT Salvage, in the presence of terminal representatives and the shipping company.

The exercise aimed to test and evaluate:

  • The implementation of notification, alert, intervention, and rescue procedures in the event of a fire, both on the ship and by the Port Authority.
  • The responsiveness of crisis management teams to information requests from clients, partners, authorities, stakeholders, and to media and political pressure.
  • The coordination and responsiveness of various actors and interveners.
  • The availability and adequacy of intervention resources on the part of the Port Authority.
  • Familiarizing land-based intervention teams with a fire aboard a Car Carrier ship.
  • The impact of the event on the continuity of port operations.
